Paul D. Geleta

LATHAM Paul D. Geleta, 62, entered into eternal life Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at his residence with his loving wife, Daysha, by his side.
Born in Albany, he was the son of Ronald P. Geleta of Ballston Lake and the late Anne M. Coyle Geleta. He began his education in Cohoes schools, attended CBA and graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1980 and from the University at Albany in 1984.
Paul worked for the majority of his career at the NYSDOC Greene Correctional Facility retiring as a Sergeant in 2018. Prior to that he had been employed at the former Grand Union Warehouse in Waterford and enjoyed traveling for a position he held with the NYS Division of Naval & Military Affairs in Latham. He loved reading, especially anything to do with military history. He was very patriotic and collected WWII memorabilia. He was an avid LA Dodger fan. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family and friends, always looking to share pictures of his big catch or enjoying the catch of others.
Paul will be remembered for his generous and giving spirit; always thinking of others; as well as his sense of humor and ability to make people laugh.
He was first and foremost a loving and devoted husband and father. In addition to his father, Paul is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Daysha Bierganns Geleta; by his beloved son, Adam Geleta (Rachel) of Greenville; by his siblings Timothy Geleta of Halfmoon, Daniel Geleta (Jennyfer) of Amesbury, MA, Janet Enfield (Ron) of Ballston Lake and Nicholas Geleta of Johnstown. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Christopher, Brianna and Gregory as well as by his favorite cats, Maya and Bella.
Paul's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the caring and compassionate staff from St. Peter's Health Partners, Massachusetts General Hospital and especially to Dr. Gregorian and Dr. Filippone.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 11 a.m. in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Orthodox Cemetery, Boght Corners.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Friday from 4-7 p.m.
A Parastas service will be held at the funeral home Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.
