Paul Leon Goodnight, 81, of Zion, IL and formerly of New Castle, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025 at James A Lovell VA hospital in North Chicago, IL surrounded by his family. He was born on July 19, 1944 in Tipton, IN. He was the son of the late Bernard and Nellie (Baden) Goodnight.
Paul loved fishing, camping, spending time with his family and loved going to N&T's for coffee. He was a long-time member of the Zion Church of God now known as New Season Community Church.
He is survived by his three daughters, Linda (John) Moore, Lori Swiontek, Robin (Sean) Lowney; eight grandchildren, Robert (Meranda) Goodnight, Justin (Tina) Moore, Paul (Nicole) Moore, Jackee Swiontek, Yvonne Swiontek, Danny Collins, Tiffany (Will) Putman, Jason (Lisa) Hewkin; eleven great-grandchildren, Derek Romeo, Paul Moore Jr., Jordyn Moore, Josh Swiontek, Caleb Swiontek, Abel Putman, Cayde Putman, Kirk Williams, Leon, Luca, Juliette Hewkin; two sisters, Zonda Swift, and Marilian Kieth; one brother, Clarence Goodnight; and many nieces, nephews, and special friend Dorothy Dixion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Goodnight; granddaughter, Crystal Heikenfeld; three brothers, and six sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025 at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition in New Castle. Military rites will be conducted by contingents of the US Army, American Legion and the VFW. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
