Paul Gutierrez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away on Sunday August 17, 2025, at his home in Syracuse surrounded by his cherished family. He was born on July 26, 1935 to Frank and Delfinia Pacheco Gutierrez in Chama, New Mexico.

Paul’s early years we marked by a strong sense of duty and determination, which ultimately led him to join the United States Navy, where he served his country honorably. His commitment to service and excellence was evident in all his endeavors and left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

On August 25, 1956, Paul married his high school sweetheart, Carol Valdez in a beautiful ceremony at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Park View, New Mexico. Their enduring love and partnership became a foundation for their family life, one characterized by mutual respect, support, and joy.

In 1958, the couple moved to Layton, Utah, where Paul began a career as a Minute Man Missile mechanic for Hill Air Force Base. His expertise in this field was a source of pride for him, and he dedicated countless hours to ensuring the safety and operational readiness of the systems he worked on.

Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, adventures he often shared with his family. These moments spent in nature not only brought him joy but also served to strengthen the bonds between him and his loved ones, creating cherished moments that his family carries forward.

Paul Gutierrez leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment, and hard work that resonates through the lives he touched. As his family gathers to celebrate his life, they are reminded of his unwavering support, kindness, and the many lessons he imparted. His spirit will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children; Joseph, Wayne, Melissa (Rafael), Medina and Melinda Gutierrez; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Tommy (Ramona) Gutierrez; sisters, Margaret (Eddie) Quintana, Jordy (Zeke) Navejas and Isabel (Kelly)Wheaton. He was preceded in death by his Wife, Carol; Daughter Jani Gutierrez; grandson Zak Sanchez, parents; brothers, Harald (Flora), Horace (Lupe) and Leroy (Priscilla); sister, Martha (Rudy) Delgado.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 South Chapel Street, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. A vigil with Rosary will be held at 9:15 a.m.
