Paul A. Hankey laid down for his final rest on November 20, 2023.
Paul was born on April 10, 1958 to Don and Julia Hankey. He spent his childhood in Naples Idaho, exploring the mountains, trees and streams with his friends and siblings, riding bikes, shooting guns and likely stirring up a little mischief from time to time!
Paul attended Bonners Ferry High School until his free-spirit led him on adventures down new paths. After marrying his young love, Laura Thomas, they ventured off to southern Idaho, then to Western Oregon, growing their family along the way. Eventually, North Idaho called them home and they returned in 1988 with their three children. Paul later spent time in Seattle, and then Pahoa, Hawaii before making his last return to North Idaho in 2017, to be closer to his family.
Paul enjoyed the simple things in life, expressing gratitude for the sounds of nature, especially a good robust raven call, a deep breath of fresh mountain air, a good flat rock for skipping, or a perfect stick for poking the fire. He had a gift to entertain children with his youthful demeanor and ability to create a game out of anything! He always had time to play. Paul required little in terms of material possessions, and would never hesitate to share what he had with another in need.
Paul is survived by his four children; Heather Olsen, Donny Hankey, Tommy Hankey and Halie Jones, along with seven grandchildren, his 4 siblings Patsy Humphrey, Evelyn Haase, Frank Hankey, and Christine Ramirez, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A remembrance service for Paul will be held January 6th, 2pm, at Limitless Outpost, 6690 Main Street, Bonners Ferry, ID. Those who cared for him and would like to share a story of kindness are invited to attend.
