Additionally, he is survived by his loving sisters, Sandra McDonald (Doug), Kathy Manning, and Annette Manning, along with his aunt, Jeanette Manning, and uncles M.A. "Buck" Downey and Wayne Downey. Paul also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends. Honorary Pallbearers are Barrett Ford, Van Brooks, Billy Church, Terry Manning, Charles Self, and the coffee drinkers from the local Coffee Shop. Paul held a deep affection for St. Clair County and its residents. His entrepreneurial journey commenced in 1970 with the establishment of Manning Service Station. In 1972, following a life-altering accident that resulted in paralysis, many would have surrendered; however, Paul demonstrated remarkable resilience by opening Paul's BBQ in 1973 to help mitigate the gas shortage during the Carter administration. The community enjoyed gathering at his restaurant to engage in spirited discussions about politics. Although he closed the restaurant in February 2014, the friendships forged there endured. His bond with his wife, Marie, was particularly strong; they married in February 1981 and together dedicated their lives to serving the people of St. Clair County. In 1978, Paul embarked on a distinguished career in public service, dedicating 36 years to the residents of St. Clair County until 2022. He served as Chairman of the St. Clair County Commission from 2014 to 2022. Paul was a steadfast friend to many, always ready to assist those in need. He once stated, "I have tried to serve the people with honesty and integrity. I have focused on the well-being of the county and truly appreciate the privilege of serving." In 1995, Paul and Marie acquired a farm in Dekalb County, which they expanded over the years, fostering friendships within the Kilpatrick Community. He could frequently be found at The Sand Mountain Stockyard on Wednesdays and Saturdays, relishing the camaraderie of fellow attendees. Paul took pleasure in spending time on the back porch, shelling beans or offering guidance to those around him. He believed that idle hands were the devil's workshop and lived by this principle. Paul persevered through adversity that would have disheartened many. He was a man who loved people and was deeply loved in return. His legacy will endure through his family. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 1 PM to 7 PM at Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 11 AM in the chapel at Usrey Funeral Home, with interment following at Evergreen United Methodist Church.
