Paul Martino, of Hanover, MA, died at home on Sunday, August 18, 2024, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 73.
Loving father of Christopher Martino and his wife Michelle of Hanover; Scott Martino and his wife Michelle of Pembroke; and Amy (Martino) Walsh and her husband Kevin of Pembroke. Devoted life partner of Catherine Reynolds for 18 years, of Dedham. Great admirer of Brian Reynolds and his wife Kim of Bloomfield, New Jersey; Megan (Reynolds) McLaughlin and her husband Michael of Walpole; and Andrew Reynolds and his wife Christine of Foxborough. Former husband of Catherine Kelleher. Endless Pez supplier, and "Papa", to Francesca, Owen, Drew, Connor, Emma, Ava and Sophia. Son of Eileen (Boeri) Martino and the late Joseph Martino; Brother to Mary Martino, Greig Martino, Christine Quintilliani, and Gary Martino. Paul also leaves behind many loyal and lifelong friends whom he loved dearly, and who loved him equally in return.
Paul was raised on Freeland St. in Mattapan, and was a graduate of Boston English High School. He went on to serve in the Army National Guard before receiving his degree in prosthetics at Northwestern University and settling down to start a family in Dorchester. He later moved his family to Hanover where he spent the remaining 38 years of his life, and while there proudly served as a Call Firefighter and was active in the Hanover Youth Hockey Program.
Paul loved working in his yard and sitting in the sun. You could often find him reading on his front steps, drinking a Miller Lite, smoking a cigar, and waving to every car that passed by. If not on the front steps he would likely be hanging by his pool with friends, or on an ATV adventure with Cathie.
Paul worked for over 50 years as a Certified Prosthetist in his family's business, United Prosthetics. This position provided him a unique opportunity to positively impact thousands of people's lives by helping them regain the ability to walk. He was driven by the relationships he formed with his patients, many of whom he has known for decades, and considers friends.
Paul will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the Visiting Hours on Thursday 8/22/24 from 2PM - 7PM, in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St. Hanover. The Funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of the Angels Parish - St. Mary's Church Hanover on Friday 8/23/24 at 9AM. Burial in Hanover Center Cemetery (off Silver Street). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's memory to the Martin Richard Foundation.

We met at Spaulding Rehab. I grew to love Paul and considered him a great friend. I was first to be diagnosed with cancer and Paul was one of the first ones I told. Then when he was diagnosed and started treatment it was tough to see. Later on we stayed in touch by calls and texts. Paul was always the true optimist he taught me so many things about being an amputee. I will miss him greatly. Rest in peace my friend we love you

For those who were not able to attend and for the memories...
- What a beautiful day and lovely service it was, Pauls' Mom especially enjoyed the clergy that came and knew Paul as a child.
- There was a police escort including Mass State Troopers and Hanover PD. Nice.
- A procession that included Hanover Fire Department trucks and four fire fighters standing attention at the first intersection on the route to the cemetery. Wow. So heartfelt (gulp).
- A drive-by of Paul's home, his truck on front lawn with a bouquet of flowers on the hood, an American flag on the house and a Miller Lite beer (see obituary). And many neighbor families on their lawns with the men of the families holding their Miller Lite beers. Gave us chills (double gulp). Nice touch you guys.
- At graveside the U. S. military played 'Taps' (awesome) and folded and presented his American flag to his beautiful family. Thank you so much.
- Finally... a great gathering of family, friends, patients and delicious food at Lucca's in Rockland.
-- Just lovely. RIP Paul. We all LOVE YOU.

To all the MartinoFamily I'm thankful that we were neighbors for all those years on Freeland Street and although the years have lessened our contact on any regular basis the strength of that neighborhood bond of love and respect remains strong.
I remember Paul taking a group of us including Greig and myself up on camping expeditions overnight in the Blue Hills Reservation. I imagine my brother was there and probably a few others but Paul was senior troop leader on those occasions. May he remain very much with us for the years to come in our memories and thoughts
