Paul Wayne Matthews Jr.

Paul Wayne Matthews Jr. of Virginia Beach passed away surrounded by the love of his family on March 24, 2026. He was a father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend whose presence filled every room with laughter and energy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Matthews Sr; his brother, Robert Matthews; and his stepfather, Beauford Evans.

Paul is survived by his mother, Margaret Evans; his brother, Jeff Matthews (Bob); and his sister, Kim Eddings (Greg). He was a proud father to seven children: Andrea Annis (Mark), Paul Matthews III (Samantha), Sarah Warren (Dennis), Lacey Ford (Danny), Haley Leedom (William), Robert Matthews (Yelena), and Lauren Matthews (Zach).

He also leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren: Zackary Oesting (30), Isaac Oesting (28), Ryan Warren (26), Madelyn Oesting (24), Andrew Warren (23), Karina Perez (20), Justin Warren (20), Oscar Perez Jr. (19), Jasmyn Perez (18), Riley Warren (18), Mady Irick (17), Wyatt Leedom (12), Jaxon Ford (11), Hazel Matthews (9), Ivy Matthews (7), Paul Matthews IV (6), Ridge Leedom (6), Odin Hale (4), Raevyn Hale (3), and Henley Leedom (2), as well as his great-grandchildren, Elle Oesting, Nathaniel Oesting, and Amara Perez.

Paul truly loved life. He had a deep joy for dancing and singing, and he never missed an opportunity to tell a wild story or share a laugh, often leaving others smiling with his contagious spirit. He was always ready for an adventure, especially during his favorite season, summer, when he could rarely be found indoors. He took pride in caring for his plants and found peace watching them grow on his back porch.

He never met a stranger, and if he did, it didn't take long before they became a friend. His warmth, humor, and love for life will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
