Obituary published on Legacy.com by Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home - Hagerstown on Oct. 1, 2025.
Paul Micheal Mauriello, MD, who later became known as "Dad" to some, "Papa Paul" to others, and "Grandpa" or "Pop Pop" to more, and "friend" to all, born on January 12th, 1953, in New Jersey, and was welcomed to the front of the line to the pearly gates of Heaven on Monday, May 12, 2025.
He was one of five children, and he never let that slow or stunt him. He adored the outdoors; spent his time golfing, boating, and being by the water. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, who will always cherish the moments they had with him.
After graduating RPI, Paul attended Albany Medical College, did his pediatric training at Hartford Hospital, and his Allergy Fellowship in Buffalo, New York. He was a brilliant man, but often had dreams about being stuck back in high school and forgetting where his classes were, or what the combination was to his locker, or sometimes even his pants.
In 1977, Albany, New York, he met his wife of 48 years, Marsha Mauriello. Not long after, they settled in
Hagerstown, Maryland, where Paul opened a successful medical practice to save the world one nose at a time, and where he would eventually count the pollen each morning, having quipped about that when he was unable to do so during his leave of absence from the practice. Together they had three children of their own, Matthew Mauriello, David Mauriello, and Chelsea (Mauriello) Meinelschmidt.
Those who knew Paul in life can recount his dry but witty sense of humour and his seemingly everlasting patience. He was a kind, caring, and gentle man with a hunger for knowledge, shown by having been able to explain in simple terms the theory of relativity one night over chicken alfredo.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Mauriello; his brother Mark and sisters Martha and Beth; his children: Matthew, his wife Krystal, their children Abigail and Alexander; David, his wife Cathy, their children Sydney and Lily Jane; and Chelsea, her husband Cort Meinelschmidt, and their children Emily and Adrian; numerous nieces and nephews, and those close enough to call him family.
He was predeceased by his sister, Ellen Stanton.
His memory will live on through all those who had the pleasure of meeting him. We are all lucky to have been in a world with him in it.
We will have the opportunity to honor, cherish, and reminisce about the life of Dr. Paul Mauriello at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home on Eastern Boulevard on Saturday the 17th, from 1:00-4:00 pm.
