Paul McBeth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clayton Funeral Home and Crematory - La Porte on Dec. 19, 2025.
Paul Alexander McBeth, aged 80, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, in Pasadena, Texas. He was born on February 20, 1945, in Sweetwater, Texas, the second child of Leslie McBeth and Mildred Hardin McBeth. He grew up in Snyder, Texas, and graduated from Snyder High School in 1963.

Paul attended Sam Houston State University and graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. While at SHSU he was a member of Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity, Symphonic Band, Houstonian Jazz Band and the Bearkat Marching Band. It was at "Sam" that he met fellow band member and the love of his life Carol Lynn Wilson and the two were married on June 21, 1969.

After graduation Paul taught one year at Katy High School before enlisting in the Army where he served 3 years as a trumpet player in the 4th U.S. Army Band. After completing his military service he accepted a teaching position with the La Porte Independent School District and taught band there for many years. During this time he completed his Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration.

Paul was a member of La Porte Community Church where he served as an Elder and sang in the choir. He was founder and director of the Kirkringers Handbell Choir which performed regularly in church as well as at the annual Dickens on the Strand Festival in Galveston.

He was active in the community and served as a City Council member for the City of Morgan's Point where he and Carol lived for many years. He was a charter member of the La Porte Bay Area Heritage Society and enjoyed working as a volunteer at the Depot Museum.

After retirement from teaching Paul joined the La Porte Retired School Employees Association where he served as president.

In his spare time he enjoyed writing music for choir and handbells, traveling, gardening, reading, and attending the theater. He especially enjoyed attending events that his son Brent was participating in.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Richard McBeth. Survivors include his wife Carol Lynn McBeth, Son Brenton Corey McBeth, sister Janie Romine, Kay Hopper (Rick), brothers John McBeth, Carlos McBeth (Tracy) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Life will be held on January 17, 2006, at the La Porte Community Church with visitation at 10:00 a.m and service at 11:00. Memorial donations can be made to the Church or to the La Porte Retired School Employees Association Scholarship Fund.

One of my best friends for over 60 years, from our 4th Army Band years to LaPorte HS, we made some great music Paul was a fine conductor, teacher and composer.

My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the many people whose lives Mr. McBeth touched. He was my band director at Baker junior high and La Porte high school. He was a patient and kind man who I learned so much from. He touched all of our lives. May he rest in peace and may our memories of him continue to impact our lives forever.
