Paul F. Monaco

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Paul Monaco, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, and friend.

Paul was a devoted husband to his wife of 49 years, Pat, and a loving father to Peter (Melissa), Chrissy (Shahin), and Lauren Tauro (Justin). He was the proud grandfather of Angela, Stella, Daniel, Liliana, Anthony, and Benjamin-his greatest joys. He also leaves behind his cherished siblings Bob, Marianne, and Lucille, as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Paul was born and raised in Garden City Park, New York, and graduated from New Hyde Park Memorial High School with the Class of 1964. He dedicated 33 years of his life to teaching chemistry at his alma mater, where he also served as Advisor to the Class of 1974, the "official" school photographer, and a proud lifelong NHP Gladiator. Known affectionately as NHP's own "Mr. Wizard"-or today's equivalent, Bill Nye the Science Guy-Paul brought science to life with passion, humor, and the occasional emergency evacuation due to a chemistry experiment gone awry.

Paul's impact as an educator extended far beyond the classroom. He remembered the names of nearly every student he taught and maintained lasting friendships with many. In retirement, he continued to tutor, focusing especially on underprivileged students, helping them discover their potential and showing them that someone truly cared.

Outside of teaching, Paul was an enthusiastic fisherman, a man of great faith, and a gentle soul with strong convictions. Whether through the buttons, shirts, hats, or bumper stickers he wore, Paul stood firmly for what he believed in, always welcoming respectful disagreement with grace and humor.

Paul and Pat made their home in Carle Place, where they raised their family and lived for over 42 years.

To those who knew him, Paul was a treasured friend, mentor, and confidant. The love and admiration expressed by former students, colleagues, and friends meant the world to him and to his family. He truly made the world a better place.
