Paul and Betty have been longtime friends and fellow active members at New Hope Lutheran Church when our family raised our daughters there. Also they were Lakes of Austin Park neighbors as well, living a couple blocks away from us, so we encountered them often at neighborhood events.
Paul always told me he was a 'money guy' and reminded me of that often when I served on church council, beseeching me to watch carefully over our congregation expenditures. You could always count on him for a pithy comment during budget meetings:) but he usually had a very good point!
We liked sitting in front of Paul and Betty at church since Paul had such a good voice like an Irish Tenor, and I used to tell him he reminded me of hearing Dennis Day singing Danny Boy.
His 80th birthday bash at Los Gallitos mexican restaurant was quite an event as I recall that Betty had hosted, quite a crowd assembled to celebrate.
In his declining days, I stopped to greet him several times in our neighborhood when Betty or his caregiver would wheel him in his wheelchair on a nice weather day. I doubt he recognized me, but always had a smile.
I think Paul had a long and happy life, grounded in his Christian faith. We extend our sympathies for Betty and his family at his final passing after his struggles with dementia.
