I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
It was always a pleasure to see Paul on his walks, climbing the hills of Worcester. Whenever I saw him. he would give me such a warm smile.

Paul was an amazing colleague, a caring friend, and a mentor like figure for those of us who wanted to fight for social justice. I enjoyed every single interaction I had with him. I was awestruck by his email loaded with humor after he was diagnosed with the brain cancer. He knew what was coming and accepted it calmly. Only a man full of wisdom will be able to do that. I had visited Paul and Marj at their home after he got out of the hospital after the first surgery. He knew he lived a meaningful life and was satisfied with his achievements. He showed me his collection of books, his writings, and talked about his family in length. We discussed about the American Politics and I could see that Paul was passionately arguing about the role and responsibility we all have to bring change, completely getting out of his own health issues. I believe in Paul and he will continue to stay with me as a role model for social justice and change. I am glad that I got to know him. Paul has always been working for Peace and I am certain that he will Rest In Peace. My sincere condolences to all bereaved family members and friends!

I am truly sorry for his loss. He is my favorite professor for entire six-year (undergrad and grad ) studying journey in USA. He helped me to write an important recommendation letter to get into Boston University. He will always be an inspiration as a wise person with humanity, and as a caring figure to lead mutual understanding between China and USA. My best wishes for him, RIP. I am honored forever to have taken his Modern Chinese history class at Clark University. My condolences to his loved ones.

I never had the opportunity to express what a lasting mark Professor Ropp left on my education. He helped me challenge myself to think more critically and opened my eyes to the possibility of viewing historical figures, political movements and philosophies outside of my own insular, American life. He coolly made me realize there was so much outside my bubble I had left to learn and even now, I attribute his teachings to my investment in Asian Studies. Thank you so much Professor.

I had Professor Ropp for a Modern China course at Clark. He was one of my favorite professors and had great passion for all that he did. I also had the pleasure of seeing him sing in the St Vincent's atrium.
I am honored to have taken his class.
My condolences to his loved ones.

My condlescences to the Ropp family. Paul was an amazing person and teacher. As one of his students he advised, I will never forget how much of an impact he made on my life and others. I would't be the person I am without him. His personality, kindness and loving attitude will be missed greatly.

I loved my studies with Dr. Paul Ropp. He was an amazing professor and such a kind soul. He will be dearly missed by all Clarkies who had the pleasure of learning with him. Some of my favorite class memories at Clark were in his Confucianism, Daoism & Buddhism class my freshman year of college where he sparked my enthusiasm for Asian Studies. He would often hold class outside, and took us on a field trip to a Buddhist retreat center where I had my first experience with meditation. I remember him coming into class every morning with his green tea in a mason jar and I always wondered how he didn't burn his hands. He provided the foundation for much of my interest in exploring Asian culture, and I was hoping to see him again at our 5 year reunion this May. What a loss for the Clark community, but I am so grateful to have had the chance to learn from him during his time with us. C
