Paul "Tinker" Savela of Ahmeek Location, age 85, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born in Calumet, Michigan on April 18, 1940, where he learned a love for the outdoors and the water. Paul was an avid Lake Superior fisherman and spent countless happy days casting a line and sharing stories with family and friends.
When he wasn't on the water, he enjoyed many adventures with Darlene. Paul loved to travel, explore, and make new memories. They spent many winters in Mexico, followed by several years in Gulf Shores, enjoying sunshine, good company, and the beauty of the open waters.
Paul was a proud metal model maker at Ford Motor Company, where he dedicated 30 years of skilled and loyal service. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and the friendships he built throughout his career. He was also an army veteran, and his years of service included a year spent in Germany with Darlene. Beyond his professional life, he was a devoted member of the Maple Leaf American Legion Post 291 for over 50 years, and a member of the Hazel Park Eagles for 64 years. His commitment to these organizations reflected his strong sense of community, camaraderie, and service.
Paul had a kind heart, and a quiet sense of humor, and a love for the simple pleasures in life. He loved spending time with his family and was fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren. Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Darlene, sons Michael (Erin), Greg (Kim), and Andrew (Michelle), and his grandchildren Katie and Adam. He was preceded in death by his parents Verna and Pete Kangas.
A celebration of life will take place next summer in his hometown of Calumet, Michigan. If you are unable to attend, please consider taking a trip, casting a line, or watching a sunset over the water – just like Paul loved to do.
