Paul Joseph Schmidt

Paul Joseph Schmidt passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, in Pittsford, New York. He was born on June 7, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, to Paul G. Schmidt and Alice Schmidt(Meagher). Paul lived a life defined by integrity, dedication, and quiet excellence, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

Paul was a proud graduate of Fort Schuyler Maritime College, Class of 1961. His education laid the foundation for a distinguished engineering and aerospace career that spanned decades and took his family to many places across North America. He began his professional journey with Republic Aviation in Farmingdale, Long Island, and continued with positions at Textron in Williamsport, Pennsylvania; General Dynamics Electric Boat in Quincy, Massachusetts; Canadair in Montreal, Canada; Fairchild Republic Company in Hagerstown, Maryland; and Monroe Forgings in Rochester, New York. Wherever his work took him, Paul was known for his professionalism, intelligence, and steady leadership.

On November 12, 1961, Paul married the love of his life, Joan Schmidt (Noble). Their marriage was one of deep devotion, partnership, and enduring love. Together, they raised a family and built a home rooted in strong values, mutual respect, and unwavering support.

Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Joan; his children, Paul R. Schmidt and ex-wife Colleen Chase, Jeorgann and husband Bob Crumb; and Lori and husband Mike Kramer. He was a proud grandfather to Robyn and her husband Joe Colleran, Paul N. Schmidt, Suzanne and her husband Kevin Conolly, Matt Cook, and Caroline Schmidt, and a cherished great-grandfather to Violet Colleran, Zoey Conolly, Grayson Colleran, and Blake Conolly. He is also survived by his sister Mary Alice and her husband Ray Batvinis, and his brother John Schmidt and wife Pat.

Outside of work and family, Paul found great joy on the golf course. An avid golfer, he was especially known for his soft, accurate touch around the greens-a reflection of his patience, precision, and quiet confidence. Whether at work, at home, or on the course, Paul carried himself with humility and grace.

Paul Joseph Schmidt will be remembered as a man of character, commitment, and kindness. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the work he was proud of, and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
