Paul V. Scholes, a graduate of Albion High School, Class of 1963 passed away Monday, September 15th at Unity Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. He was born to Douglas and Neva Scholes on June 11, 1944, in Hamlin, N.Y. He was 81 years old.
In 1965, Paul was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably from 1965-1967 where he was a signal supply specialist. The last 12 months of his term was spent in country during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home he was hired by the Eastman Kodak Company where he worked until he retired in 1999. On June 1, 1968, he married a classmate from high school, Janice M. French who predeceased him in 2004. They had four children: Three sons, Paul Scholes Jr. (Charity), Robert Scholes (Chrystal) and Douglas who also predeceased him in 1975. They had one daughter, Tracey Mochol (Shawn); Two sisters, Neomia of Medina and Neva of Rochester; Two grandchildren Shawn and Jonathan; One great grandchild along with cousins, nieces and nephews.
Paul was also predeceased by both parents, his two brothers, Douglass, Clarence and sister Viola along with in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and great nephews.
Paul grew up in Point Breeze where he learned the love of fishing and eventually, he picked up a guitar and began writing and singing country music. After an automobile accident in 1969 he began going to church regularly with his family where they became members of Oak Orchard Assembly of God. He loved playing and singing the old hymns and started a music ministry where he would perform for the elderly in the hospitals and nursing homes then in some churches as well. In his later years living in Medina, he began the hobbies of bicycling, metal detecting, coin and sports card collecting. He was also a fan of the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills.
At the end of April 2024 he relocated to Wolcott, NY where his son Paul could help take care of him as he had been showing signs of dementia. The VA hospital in Syracuse did diagnose him officially after moving to Wayne County. He was also seeing a Cardiologist through the VA.
Paul’s family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home 21 West Ave. Albion, NY 14411 on Thursday, September 25th from 1:00-3:00pm where his funeral service will follow at 3:00pm. Interment will be held in Western New York National Cemetery in Corfu on Monday, September 29th.
