Helen M. Whitmarsh Specht

Helen M. Whitmarsh, 82, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Kinzers, Pennsylvania, Helen moved to Rochester after graduating from Albion High School, where she began a life rooted in compassion, service, and devotion to family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Clifton and Helen Specht, and her brother, John Specht. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Monroe "Vern" Whitmarsh; her children Stacey (Alan) Illerbrun, Paula (David) Taylor, and Amy (Jerry) Newsome; her cherished grandchildren David (Anissa) Illerbrun, Adam (Lydia) Illerbrun, Lukas (Shannon) Illerbrun, Zachary Taylor, Logan Taylor, Melissa Newsome, and Sheldon Newsome; and her adored great-grandchildren-seven girls and one boy-who were truly the light of her life. She also leaves behind her siblings Mary D'Augustino and Clifton (Pam) Specht, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Helen spent much of her life working as a phlebotomist and retiring from Wyoming County Community Hospital. Outside of work, she gave generously of her time and spirit-volunteering as a Girl Scout leader, serving at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Silver Springs, and acting as Secretary of her bowling league. She and Vern loved a good road trip, traveling to many parts of the country together and creating a lifetime of memories.

Helen's warmth, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 19th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 3325 Winton Road South. Interment will be private.
