Following a courageous and stoic battle with mental health, Paul Patrick Shallenberger passed away on Tuesday September 17, 2024 in Cumberland County, PA.
Paul was born on January 13, 2005 in Trenton, NJ and lived the first half of his life in Bucks County, PA. Paul forever fills our hearts with his genuine, kind, generous, and protective goodness, as well as his deep affection and gentleness toward children, especially his younger cousins. And Paul's compassion for animals, particularly his dog Jocko, was authentic and real.
Paul's greatest passion was sharing connection, kindness, and love with family and friends and he was happiest when such moments took place in wide open natural spaces beneath a vast sky and endless horizon. Paul also enjoyed history, sketching, Lego modeling, gaming, wood-carving, anime television, cooking, observing nature, and the heart-felt sublime poetry of music by artists Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, Sturgill Simpson, Johnny Cash, Chris Stapleton, and others.
At the time of his passing, Paul was enrolled in Harrisburg Area Community College to learn welding and he was employed at Mt. Airy Orchards. Throughout his life, Paul quietly and persistently served others: by providing food to those in need; repairing bikes at Recycle Bicycle in Harrisburg; volunteering in the food pantry and gleaning with Project Share in Carlisle; and working with Habitat-for-Humanity.
Paul is survived by his older brother Walter Shallenberger; his parents Patricia Newdeck and James Shallenberger; his grandparents Patricia and William Newdeck and Joanne and John Shallenberger; as well as his Uncle William Newdeck and Aunt Cheryl; Uncle Christopher Newdeck and fiancé Karen Henkle; Uncle John Newdeck and Aunt Michelle; Uncle Jeffrey Shallenberger and Aunt Patricia; and, cousins Charlotte, Valerie, Emily, Patrick, Connor, Madelyn, Rebecca, Jack, Sarah, and Katherine.
If anyone would be so inclined to make a donation on Paul's behalf, please donate to Project Share of Carlisle at https://projectsharepa.org/donate-2/ or Friends of Howell Living History Farm at https://www.howellfarm.org/donation.
