Paul Sheredy, 95, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord early Sunday morning, August 10, 2025. Predeceasing Paul were his parents, Joseph and Mary (Burak) Sheredy, his loving wife, Ann (Barina) Sheredy, his infant brothers John and Victor and infant sister Monica, brothers, Joe (Olga), Ed and Fran, and his wife Ann's siblings.

Surviving Paul are his three daughters and sons-in-law, Marie Therese and Darrell "Marty" Gonterman, Pat and Dan Foley, Monica and Dave Gibson; a son, Daniel Sheredy; his five beloved grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) and Megan Gonterman; Conor and Rev. Brendan Foley; and Emily (Eric) Jones; one sister, Mary Ann (John) Okoniewski; one brother, Bernie Sheredy, a sister-in-law, Cathy Sheredy, also several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends across the country.

As a young man Paul studied for the priesthood but left the seminary just months before his diaconate ordination. Paul revered his friendships with seminarian classmates throughout his life. Paul served the church in many ways, including as sacristan at St. James Parish for twenty-five years. He was a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Folk Group singer. He trained altar servers. He helped St. Nicholas at Christmastime for many years. He supported many ministries and the priests at St. James with prayerful generosity.

Paul and Ann loved their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed taking family trips, fishing outings, and visiting relatives. Paul enjoyed spring trips to Louisville with Ann; the cruise with his brother, Joe; visits to Georgia, Vermont, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. Paul's grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to him every day of his life. He was their best cheerleader; their greatest supporter and he loved and treasured each one dearly.

He loved his siblings and extended family, too. The memorable Sheredy Family Reunions he organized brought great fun and shaped family legends! His Slovak roots meant so much to him. Not only did favorite traditional foods fill his belly but also, they warmed his heart with loving memories of family growing up in Throop and Binghamton.

Paul was a beloved teacher in the U.E. School District. He inspired many students and made lasting friendships with wonderful colleagues. The menagerie in his classroom created delightful, teachable yet often comical moments. Paul founded the Frost Valley educational trips. Paul spent summers working at Camp Sertoma, another special place he loved to be teaching campers, enjoying the outdoors, and being Chief Paul.

Paul's Catholic faith sustained him throughout his life. It was the single driving force shaping his life. He was a prayerful daily communicant for most of his life. He held deep devotion to the Blessed Mother, to the Rosary, to Saint Kateri Tekakwitha and St. Therese of Lisieux.

Paul's family would like to thank those caregivers who joyfully cared for him in his final years and days.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Main Street, Johnson City, Friday August 22, 2025 at 11 a.m. by his grandson, Rev. Brendan Foley. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday August 21, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m.
