Paul C. Shugrue, 81, a lifelong Worcester resident passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
Paul was born, May 30, 1942, one of four children of Francis P. and Frances J. (Mullins) Shugrue. Raised in the Main South neighborhood of Worcester, he graduated from Commerce High school. Paul then joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, serving his country proudly on the USS Forest Sherman for three years. Upon discharge and return home Paul worked as a route driver for Anchor Motor Freight for many years before retiring.
Paul is survived by his four children, Cheryl A. Dionne and her husband Dan of Lincolnton, NC, Michael S. Shugrue and his wife Keri of Sterling, Lisa M. Rosum and her husband Robert of Shrewsbury, and Lynn A. Shugrue of Boylston: two sisters, Bonnie H. Lemoine of Auburn, and Nancy M. Lavoie and her husband Marcel of Sutton; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan, and James Schramm, Sabrina and Brendan McDuffie, and Elise Shugrue; a great grandson Jay Schramm; many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. A brother, William J. "Billy: Shugrue and brother-in-law, Ronald B. Lemoine predeceased him.
Paul grew up in the 70's when CB radios were a fad, he always used the handle "Boogeyman". He loved the music of the 70's and dancing to those songs. Notably he could be found on any dance floor of a function he attended.
Friends and relatives are invited to gather for Calling Hours on Tuesday, June 20th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 21st at 10:30 am in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Saint John Cemetery.
