"Tall" Paul Lee Smith, age 94 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Butler Center in Butler. He was born February 6, 1931 to Hiram Earl and Effie Elsie Close Smith in Butler.

Paul, one of nine children, grew up in Butler, Missouri. Upon leaving school, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and lived there until 1978. While in Kansas City Paul worked at the Townley Metal and Hardware Company for 11 years before returning to Butler. Paul began working with the City of Butler spending the majority of his time with the electric department. His career as a city employee spanned 20 years and eight months when he retired in 1999.

Paul, a beloved community member, cherished friend, and passionate outdoorsman, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of joy, music, and adventure. He had a passion for old cars, even having a small collection. Paul could often be heard by his neighbors playing his guitar and singing. At one time, he even made an appearance in a local television show-yodeling. As an avid outdoorsman, Paul enjoyed snagging season and bowhunting for deer. He enjoyed traveling the country by motorcycle, often alongside his good friend Dave. A favorite pastime, Paul could often be found at auctions where he would often give the auctioneers a hard time. Although Paul will be missed, his memory will live on through stories told by his family and those who had the great fortune to know him.

Paul is survived by one sister, Helen Elliott of Marrero, Louisiana; several nephews and nieces; and special friend, Dave Williams and wife Billie of Butler, Missouri. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, three brothers and four sisters.
