J. Paul Snure, 91, of Smithville, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, at Wooster Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Paul was born on April 29, 1934, on the family farm to Forest Wayne and Pauline (Heller) Snure and graduated from Smithville High School. On Jan. 3, 1960, he married Carol L. Matthews and they shared 65 years together. Paul was a dairy farmer having operated the family farm until his retirement and was a lifetime member of Wayne Presbyterian Church where he held many leadership positions over the years including serving as a trustee and currently on the finance committee.
Paul was a member of the Wayne County Farm Bureau and had served on the board of directors of Landmark at Smithville. He enjoyed traveling over the years to all 50 States, camping and working jigsaw puzzles. Spending time with his family was always his favorite pastime and he will be greatly missed.
Surviving is his wife, Carol; his three children and their spouses, Jeffrey W. and Tina Snure, Denise M. and Russell Odenkirk and Stephanie L. and Bennett Bess and four granddaughters, Lauren Odenkirk and her fiancé John Elia, Leann Durkovic and her husband Nick, Rebecca Snure-Plut and her husband Christian and Claire A. Bess.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Doris Custer and Janet Snure.
Services will be Tuesday, Dec. 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne Presbyterian Church with Rev. Christy Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Apple Creek Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, Dec. 15th from 5-7 p.m. at Wayne Presbyterian Church and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wayne Presbyterian Church, 7152 Burbank Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or to The Salvation Army, 437 S. Market St., Wooster, OH 44691.
