Paul Edward Sutton, 90, of Marion, IL passed from this life peacefully on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025 in the presence of his three loving children. He was reunited with his wife, Barbara, who passed in 2020.

Paul was born on December 1, 1934 to William Thomas and Nellie Elizabeth Sutton, who preceded him in death. Two older brothers, Billy Wayne and James Loren Sutton died in infancy before his birth. Robert, his older brother, and Emily, his younger sister also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Jeff Sutton (Melissa) of Sherman, TX, Jamie Pickens (Jeff) of Marion, IL and Jim Sutton (Diedra) of Irving, TX. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Paul held many occupations during his life. In 1969, at the age of 34, he started school at SIU. He completed a degree in elementary education and taught for 6 years at Logan Elementary in Marion, IL. Later, he ran heavy equipment for 10 years at the Leahy coal mine.

His fondest memories are those during the 1950's when he was a crew member on the B36 Peacemaker, the largest bomber the Air Force ever flew. He was a radio operator and gunner. Later, he was assigned to fly on refuelers. He had many exciting stories from those years.

Paul had many interests, wide range of knowledge, and talents which he passed down to his children and grandchildren. He loved to tell the grandkids spooky stories, as well as write stories and poetry which he would print and send out. He was skilled in everything he pursued.

He was a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, and that is why we celebrate his passing and look forward to reuniting with him and other loved ones.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.

A graveside committal service will be held in Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
