Paul Michael Tranter (73), known affectionately as Coach T, transitioned bravely on March 8, 2025 to a place where dementia holds no power. He was a humble, loving, and loyal soul whose life was deeply intertwined with the city he called home. Born in Taunton, MA on November 9, 1951, he moved to Attleboro, MA as a young child. A 1970 graduate of Attleboro High School, Paul went on to become a produce manager with Fernandes Supermarkets, a responsibly he undertook with great pride and creativity. His life was a testament to service, family, and the pursuit of passions that brought joy to him and those around him.
A supportive husband and dedicated father, Paul was the bedrock of his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Joanne (Souto) Tranter, his loving daughters Kelly (Richard) Moore and Shannon Faye, and cherished granddaughters, Yandeh Faye and Phoenix Moore. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lorraine Tranter, and his stepmother, Rita Muldoon-Tranter. His family will remember him as a man who lavished love and attention on them, creating a nurturing home environment where everyone felt special and valued.
Known for his unique qualities, Paul was a man of many talents and interests. His passions ranged from cultivating bonsai trees, creating wire sculptures, and drawing enchanting wizards, to collecting seashells along the shoreline and dancing the weekends away with his beautiful bride. His love for music, especially classic rock, was infectious, and his spirit was as free as the kites he loved to fly at the beach. He was employed for over 30 years as a youth sports coach, a role he cherished with all his heart. His dedication to developing confidence in young female athletes was evident in his work, especially when he started the first local field hockey youth sports program in 1999. His profound impact on these girls and the local athletic community continues to resonate today.
In Matthew 5:16, it is written, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Paul's life was a reflection of this verse. He was a beacon of light, shining brightly in the lives of his family, friends, and the young athletes he mentored. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide those he touched.
The memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 4 -7 p.m. at the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Coach T's memory may be made to the S. Attleboro Girl's Recreation Association (SAGRA, PO Box 3696, Attleboro, MA 02703). If a method of electronic donation is needed, same may be sent via Venmo to @KellyT508 for subsequent forwarding to SAGRA.
