Paul Vasvari

Paul Vasvari, age 94, of Silver Springs, FL, passed away on September 20, 2024.
Paul was born on June 12, 1930 in Budapest, Hungary. After surviving the Holocaust by living in various orphanages, transit camps, with relatives and escaping to Tel Aviv, then returning as a child, he finally left Hungary in 1956 at the age of 26 after the ill-fated uprising against the Communist regime and settled in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended evening sessions at local schools while working full-time at St. Regis Paper Mill for 14 years. He earned from his G.E.D. to a Master of Arts in Teaching degree and Certification in Administration and Supervision from Jacksonville University. In 1974, he was appointed first as Coordinator and later as Assistant Principal for Community Education at Terry Parker High School and served as well at Arlington Junior High for 19 years.
Paul was an active participant in the theatrical scene of Jacksonville and appeared in several
musicals at the Little Theatre, Thunderbird Dinner Theatre, and a variety of other appearances in
Jacksonville and beyond.
After retirement in 1993, Paul and Barbara moved to Silver Springs, Florida. He continued his hobby
with music and theatre, participating in singing with the Ocala Civic Theatre's Golden Troupers, the
Marion Civic Chorale, houses of worship, acting at the Real McCoy Dinner Theatre, and entertaining
at various retirement and nursing homes in and around Marion County. He also was active in the
karaoke circuit and won major contests.
Paul leaves behind his daughter Allison Dalton of Downsville, LA, granddaughter Ferrin Flowers, and grandsons Finnon Flowers and Jack Johnson; great-grandsons Finnon, Jr., Gage, and Tanner
Flowers; and brother and sister-in-law George and Susanne Parker of Sydney, Australia and
numerous nieces, nephews, and their large families. Paul was lovingly referred to as Apa from his
daughter and Nagyapa from his beloved youngest grandson Jack. He affectionately referred to his
daughter as Kislàny. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and husband and brought light, laughter, and love of music to all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed. Szeretlek tèged Apa.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Jones Vasvari, and parents Sandor and Sarolta
Vasvari.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 25, at 12:30 pm at Roberts Funeral Home
Chapel at 6241 SW State Rd 200, Ocala, FL 34476. Services will also be livestreamed through the
link below. Graveside services will be held at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens in Ocala, FL at
2:00 pm.
