Paul Venti Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home on Aug. 16, 2025.
Paul "Ernie" Venti, 74, born on December 11, 1950, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 15, 2025, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving partner and childhood sweetheart, Joan Campbell, and her two daughters, Debra Campbell and Carey Campbell-Larose.

Those who were fortunate to know Paul will remember him as a selfless, giving man with a heart of gold and a personality larger than life. A true humanitarian, he recognized the good in everyone and lived each day to bring joy to others. Always ready with a joke and his signature boisterous laugh, Paul had a presence that was both warm and strong.

Paul dedicated his life to service. He was the proud Founder and President of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Fighting the Good Fight on Hunger and Homelessness and the published author of a book by the same name. Through his tireless work, he touched countless lives, organizing "homeless runs" to hand out blessing bags, volunteering with the Missions of Mercy charity group to provide dental care to the underprivileged, and inspiring others to give back.

Outside of his advocacy, Paul enjoyed life fully, whether collecting and trading union pins, fishing with a rod in hand, or sharing spontaneous dances in the kitchen, backyard, or driveway with Joan. A lifelong music lover, especially of Bob Dylan, Paul embraced the joy of simple moments and made lasting memories with those he loved most.

Paul was also a highly respected member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 777 union. Beginning his UA career in 1989 with Plumbers Local 76, he went on to serve as job steward on numerous projects. He was elected to the Executive Board of Local 777 (2012–2015) and as a delegate to the 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2021 UA National Conventions. Even after his retirement in 2013, Paul remained deeply committed to his union, leading the Local 777 Retiree Group, chairing the service pin committee, and spearheading charitable initiatives, including his very first food drive. His dedication to his union brothers and sisters never wavered, and he faithfully honored the memory of those lost in the Kleen Energy tragedy, now reuniting with them in eternal peace.

Paul is survived by his loving partner, Joan Campbell; her children and grandchildren; his cherished Elmwood crew of lifelong companions; and his extended family of union brothers and sisters, along with a large community of family and friends who loved him dearly.

Paul "Ernie" Venti was larger than life, a kindhearted, fun-loving model of humanity whose legacy of generosity and compassion will endure. He taught us the value of giving back, of serving others, and of always finding joy in the journey. His impact on this world was immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed.

Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours for Paul on Friday, August 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 1083 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, directly across the street from the funeral home.

Keep on fighting the good fight from Heaven above, Paul. Until we meet again.

"So when you see your neighbor carryin' somethin',

Help him with his load,

And don't go mistaking Paradise,

For that home across the road." -Bob Dylan

Paul I haven't seen you in at least 65 years I lived in Elmwood near Bob Wright and you always teased me at Talcott School by pulling my long hair. I am so glad I was able to connect with Paul on FB and see all the passionate offerings he gave to homeless people , he was such a great man. Rest in Peace.

Knew Ernie as a teenager growing up in Elmwood. We weren't exactly choir boys back then. Played a lot of poker in my parent's basement and popped a couple of cold ones from time to time. Lost touch with him in the 70's but reconnected about 10 years ago on FB. I hooked up with Ernie at an Elmwood reunion a couple of years ago and was very impressed with how he turned out and all the charity work he did. He gave me a signed copy of his book which I found to be very inspirational. May you rest in peace.

RIP, Ernie...Though we didn´t run in the same circles at Conard, we knew of other through mutual friends (Hess, Larkum and others). We caught up tho through FB with your frequent postings of you helping the homeless and less fortunate folks. I was proud to be one of the first ones to write a review of your book and to watch you expand your endeavors over the years, not only helping others but also your " honey-do" list, which always seemed to never end and constantly kept you busy. It was good to have a significant other that was always thinking ahead (lol) while you both reaped the rewards of your efforts. And of course you did get in some good fishing when time allowed. Ernie, I hope realize that Heaven is getting a real good man as it receives you. There is no doubt in my mind that you are the model, that today, we should all emulate to make this a better world. We will all miss you and your postings.
