Paul E. Woodard, Sr., a beloved figure in both his family and community, passed away on October 31, 2024 at the age of 83. Born on April 14, 1941, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the late Paul A. and Vera Woodard.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Their partnership was a beacon of love and support for not only each other but also their family, which grew to include five wonderful children: Paul Woodard, Jr., Michael (Arlene) Woodard, Lisa (Steven) Thomas, Steven (Kristin) Woodard, and John (Laura) Woodard. Paul's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Cliff Thomas, Elizabeth (Sean) Southard, Madalyn Thomas, Carly (Andrew) Arlen, Quinn Woodard, Logan Harris, Marissa (Tyler) Sultana, Austin Woodard, Mallery Woodard, Ryne Socha, Alanna Woodard, Brooke Woodard, Delaney Woodard, Kyla Woodard, Alexis Gulley, Lilly Patterson, Carlos Vasquez and Shawn Clark; as well as his great-grandchildren, Alaina, Easton, Blake, Blair, Adley, Charlie, Andi, Nico, and Sophie.
Paul distinguished himself throughout his life, signing with the Detroit Tigers right out of high school. Though his love for baseball was immense, Paul’s love for his family was greater. He went on to become a well-respected superintendent at General Motors, before retiring in 1993.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paul cherished spending time with his family, playing softball and riding horses. He took immense joy in creating memories with his loved ones, and his warmth and kindness touched everyone around him.
Paul is also remembered by his siblings, Bonnie French and Wanda Elandt, who shared many cherished moments with him throughout the years. He is preceded in death by Roy, Melvin, Ervin, Peggy, Barbara, and Doris.
