Paul "Short" Young

Paul "Short" Young passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2026. "Short" was born October 30, 1945 to Elmo and Nellie Young in Artesia, New Mexico. He grew up in Maljamar and Lovington, New Mexico. He enjoyed rodeoing and hunting as a teenager.

Short married Rebecca "Becky" Rusk on June 18,1971 they had 25 years of love and happiness. Together they raised two children, Jesse and Brandi Young, taking them hunting and camping as well as supporting their love of showing horses and other animals in 4-H and FFA.

Short was a very devoted husband and father. He was a very hard-working man who would do anything for those in need. He retired from the oilfield in 2007 after working for Star Tool/Smith International for over 30 years. After retirement, he loved working alongside his son, doing work on equipment, driving trucks and baling hay. He was a God-fearing man with one of the sweetest smiles. He was known to have one of the biggest hearts.

He was survived by his daughter, Brandi Young of Hobbs, New Mexico, his sister, Pat Howard of Fairview, Texas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Becky, his son Jesse Young, a brother Rock Ashcraft, two sisters Norma Hoskinson and Virginia Lawrence.
