Paula Downard Best

Paula Downard Best, 74, of New Albany passed away Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Paul and Genevieve (Collins) Downard on October 8, 1948. She earned her BA in Nursing from Spalding University and her BA in History from Western Kentucky University. Paula worked as RN/Educator/Coordinator at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana for over 20 years and had previously worked at University of Louisville Hospital. Paula was an avid reader, she enjoyed going to the beach when possible. She loved animals and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Thomas E. Best; her son Scott Sweeney (Carrie) and their children Zachary, Kate and Chad, her son Noah Best (Meghan) and her niece, who was like a daughter, Alicia Núñez (Ivan) and her children Ava and Addison.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Nancy Holthouser.
A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 from 1-6 PM at Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes (1119 E. Market St. New Albany, IN).
A celebration of Paula's life will be held in the Market Street Chapel at 6 PM Tuesday evening.
