Paula Verna Mary (Morgan) Elsey, 94, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, at Autumn Leaves Senior Living Community in Dallas, Texas.
Born on February 24, 1931, in Newark, New Jersey, Paula was the daughter of Charles J. Morgan and Paula (Beck) Morgan. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Helen (Morgan) Iannello, with whom she shared a special, lifelong bond.
In her early twenties, Paula left New Jersey to serve her country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After completing basic training in Texas, she was promoted to drill sergeant, where she mentored and led many young servicewomen. It was also during her service that she met and fell in love with Gordon Neil Elsey of Tulsa, Oklahoma. They were married on July 13, 1951.
Together, Paula and Gordon raised three sons-Neil Elsey (Georgina) of Phoenix, Arizona; Chuck Elsey (Lori) of Dallas, Texas; and Rick Elsey of Oklahoma-while moving across the country in support of Gordon's successful career in the oil industry and later real estate, in which Paula took an active role.
Paula is also survived by seven grandchildren-Amy, Tara, Ashley, Chad, Jesse, Jill, and Nicole-and sixteen great-grandchildren-Everest, Mattea, Fisher, Ezra, Josie, Reuben, Caleb, Weston, Ethan, Ava, Liam, Alexis, Memphis, Davis, Eli, and Stella, as well as a niece, Kathleen Iannello, and two grand-nephews, Chris Iannello and Andrew Dalton, with whom she shared an especially close relationship.
Paula was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She never met a stranger. Her warmth, quick wit, and boundless generosity left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Her stories could fill a room with laughter, and her empathy provided comfort to all who needed it. Until her very last days, Paula's resilience, energy, and optimism never wavered. Her spirit was as bold, bright, and unique as the life she lived.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
FAMILY TREE
A branch has fallen from the Family Tree,
The younger limbs still reach for the Heavens,
Although shaken, the Tree shall not waiver,
Because the Branch's deep roots live on forever.
