It is with great sadness that the family of Paula McLendon, 73, announces her death on January 31, 2025.
Born on December 26,1951 in Jackson, AL, Paula graduated from Jackson High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master's in American Studies, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama. After graduating law school in 1989, she worked for the United Auto Workers in Huntsville for four years.
On February 14,1995, Paula married George Harris in Tuscaloosa, AL. This Valentine's Day, they would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Together, Paula and George practiced Social Security Disability Insurance law for over 25 years, dedicating their careers to helping thousands secure essential financial assistance until their retirement in 2019.
Paula lived a full life, and in retirement was able to devote more time to those things that brought her the most joy, including travel, gardening, and celebrating special moments and milestones with loved ones. Her generosity, kindness, zest for life, and quick wit touched the lives of countless individuals. A fierce advocate for those she loved, Paula worked tirelessly to support family, friends, colleagues, and anyone in need of a helping hand until her dying day.
Paula's parents Foscue and Helen (McLean) McLendon preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, George Harris; her daughter, Kate (Jeff) Jay; her grandchildren, George, William, and Frances Jay; her sisters, Betty Overstreet, Sandra (Ronnie) Pruitt, and Faye (Bob) McCallister; her nieces, Kerry (Paul) Dunaway, Heidi (Chris) Newton, and Wendy (Glen) Padgett; her nephew, Clay (Tracy) Overstreet; as well as many grand-nieces and nephews, and cherished friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Paula's memory to Grace Presbyterian Church's Table of Grace in Tuscaloosa or to the Clarke County Historical Museum in Grove Hill.
