Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Center of Birmingham - Vestavia Hills from Nov. 6 to Nov. 7, 2025.
Thomas "Tom" Alvin Fouts of
Vestavia Hills, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Friday, October
31, 2025. One of seven children, Tom was born in Atmore, Alabama, to Alvin and Florence Fouts. He
grew up in Brewton, AL, and graduated from T.R. Miller High School where he played football and
was president of his Senior Class.
Tom went on to earn his B.A. from the University of Alabama, an MBA from Loyola University in New
Orleans, a J.D. from the Birmingham School of Law, and a Masters in Intellectual Property Law from
Santa Clara University School of Law. He began his career in the oil and gas industry as a landman
with Exxon and then became a self-employed landman continuing to build lasting relationships
throughout his professional career.
In his younger years, he often used his private pilot's license to explore the skies and travel across
the Southeast. Always an adventurer, his spontaneity was evident as he would take his kids on
surprise trips to state parks, Mexico, and unique destinations they passed along the Alabama
highway.
An avid lover of the outdoors and water, some of his happiest moments were spent by the Gulf
Coast and Mobile Bay. Tom spearheaded the founding of Village Point Park Preserve. He was
passionate about preserving the history and natural beauty of the Eastern Shore and felt everyone
should have access to it.
Tom imparted his love of life to his children through teaching them independence and life skills. Alex
and Noah will always remember their dad teaching them to ride bikes, camping, and deep sea
fishing during trips with the Boy Scouts to help them achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. His older
children, Florence and Landis, have fond memories of boating and water skiing with him on Mobile
Bay.
