Chip Allen Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wann Funeral & Cremation Center Inc. on Nov. 7, 2025.
Charles (Chip) Headley Allen of Lookout Mountain, TN, passed away on November 4, 2025, eleven days shy of his 76th birthday.
Chip was preceded in death by his parents, Christine Headley Allen and Craig Allen Sr., and his brother, Craig Allen Jr. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his son, Jeffrey Allen (Jill) and granddaughter, Turner; and his daughter, Lauren (Allen) Davis (Nick) and grandsons, Bennett, Coleman, and Wilson, as well as their mother, Ann Allen. He is also survived by his two stepdaughters, Catherine (Stein) Moore (Patrick) and their children, Harrison and Cate; and Emily (Stein) Daugherty (Will) and their children, Charlotte and Parker.
Chip was born in Birmingham, AL, on November 15, 1949. He attended Mountain Brook High School and graduated from the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. After college, he began his career in sales, eventually establishing his own branch of the family business, Willcox & Allen in Chattanooga, where he worked until his retirement in 2018.
"GaGa" was adored by his grandchildren. He was intentional about spending time with them, whether cheering at games, taking them on adventures, or showing up after school with donuts in hand.
Chip was a beloved and respected member of his community. Even before having his own children, he saw the need for a recreational soccer league on the mountain, and with help from friends and the YMCA, created what is now the Lookout Mountain Recreation League.
For the past eight years, Chip was a dedicated member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga community, serving as both a board member and a "Big" mentor. He strongly believed in the organization's mission and personally mentored two "Littles."
A lifelong tennis player and active member of the Manker Patten Tennis Club, Chip also found great joy in woodworking. His craftsmanship produced beautiful pieces for family and friends, from decorative boxes and cabinets to a sleigh bed, and most recently, he spent the last five years building a sailboat. Chip will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at Manker Patten Tennis Club on Sunday, November 16, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga, an organization close to Chip's heart.
