Paula Kay Nelson

Paula Kay Nelson was born August 22, 1949, and passed away peacefully on March 28th, 2026, in Aurora, Illinois.

Paula was born in Mt. Pleasant Iowa to Paul and Martha Shaklee. She graduated from Southeastern Community College and worked as an LPN and later graduated from University of Iowa. She was a schoolteacher with Aldine Independent School District in Texas, where she retired. She enjoyed her family, her garden, any DIY project that needed done. Paula was also a talented artist and painter, and painted murals for her school and church in Texas, and many beautiful paintings that are proudly displayed and cherished by her family. She recently moved to the Chicago area to be closer to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jon Nelson, and her brother, Caroll Shaklee.

She was survived by her daughter Kristie (Mike) Purner, sons Troy (Denyse) Housman, Aaron Housman, grandchildren Nicole (Wil) Mollohan, Brandon (Hannah) Tamsevicius, Jacob (Lizzy) Housman, Nick Housman, Emily (Miles) Knapp, and Isaac (Tina) Housman, and a great-grandchildren Idolia Molohan and Avery Housman, and her brother, LeRoy Shaklee and her loving fiancé, Larry Moore.

There will be a private gathering in celebration of her life on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026 at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 South Broadway, Montgomery, IL 60538.
