Paula Jean Smith Martin passed away peacefully at her home in Converse, Louisiana, on January 16, 2023, aged 70.
A devoted wife of almost 50 years, a fiercely loving mother, and a steadfast friend, Paula will be remembered for her strength of character, her quick smile, and her incredibly giving nature. Her heart for others manifested itself through her career as an educator, during which every child she taught to read was set on the path of lifelong learning. A passionate believer in Jesus Christ, Paula possessed an unerring moral compass and never deviated from doing what was right. A faithful and generous churchgoer, she lived her life as a shining example of godliness and grace. She opened her heart and her home without reservation and loved unconditionally, offering the wisdom of her counsel to anyone who asked (and to some who didn't).
Paula was born on August 3, 1952, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Odie Francis and Essie Marie Smith. On June 8, 1973, she was wed to Craig Martin, who would remain her lifelong companion. Together, they raised four sons who were the lights of her eye and her greatest joys.
Paula is survived by her husband Craig Martin, Sr.; sons, Craig Terry Martin, Jr. (Candice), Nolan Martin (Terri), Willis Martin (Rochelle), and Wesley Martin (Armen); siblings, Gale Wallace (Herb), Paul "Twin" Smith (Sharon); and Scott Smith (Carolyn); grandchildren, Madalyn, Mason, Cameron (Lauren), Courtney, Anthony, Andrew, Mitchell, and Kate Martin; and a host of extended family and friends.
Memorial service to be held graveside on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Campbell Creek Cemetery in Sharp, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with her passion for educating future generations, Paula wished that donations be made in her name to Grace Family Worship Center for Children's Ministry.
