Paulene Leakey Adams, age 90, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, in Asheville, North Carolina after a short period of illness.
Born on May 10, 1935, in Marion, North Carolina, Paulene lived a long and full life rooted in her community and surrounded by family. God was an important part of her life, and Paulene was saved by His Grace at a young age. Her early years in Marion shaped her faith and made her the strong and spirited woman she became; one known for her warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to her family and to God.
Paulene spent part of her career at the McDowell Senior Center, where she prepared meals with care and compassion. Her work there reflected her nurturing spirit and commitment to serving others. Later in life, she joined her daughter Lois Kaye at "The Antique Shop on Greasy Corner," where they worked side by side for many years.
Family was central to Paulene's life. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Debbie and husband Jerry, Lois Kaye, and Lena and husband Jerold; grandchildren April, Jeanette, and Ariesian; great-grandchildren Ellie, Aaron, Haliegh, Derrick, and Emily; and six great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister Nell Curtis and husband Joe, and brother Bruce Hughes. Paulene was preceded in death by her beloved husband Howard Conrad Adams as well as 10 sisters and brothers.
Paulene had a zest for life that was infectious. She loved to fish in Lake James- a pastime that brought her peace and joy- and she was known for always cracking jokes and sharing smiles. Her laughter could light up a room, and she had an uncanny ability to find joy in the everyday moments.
A graveside funeral service honoring Paulene's life will be held in the coming days and will be announced once finalized.
Her legacy lives on through the generations of family who carry forward her love of laughter and strength of spirit. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
