María Paulina Oviedo, known to friends as Paulina or Poly, was born to Galo and Amelia Pachano on July 21, 1969, in Quito, Ecuador. The third of four children, Paulina grew up in Ecuador alongside her brothers Galo, Patricio, and Andrés. A naturally gifted artist, Paulina studied graphic design and created many beautiful paintings throughout her life.
After marrying her husband of 33 years, Ivan Oviedo, an officer in the USAF, she accompanied him to military bases in Turkey, Germany, Honduras and Guam before finally settling in Sierra Madre, California and Lake Charles, Louisiana. The two had four children together - Natasha, Mercedes, Mitchell, and Frances. She cared deeply for her family, her garden, and her pets, tending to all with love and devotion. Her presence brought light and joy to all who knew her.
A devout Catholic, she was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a women's womens prayer group at St Martin de Porres in Lake Charles, LA. She faithfully prayed the Divine Mercy with fellow prayer group sisters.
Paulina passed away at her home in Sierra Madre after a nearly 3 year courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Ivan and their children - Natasha, Mercedes, Mitchell, and Frances - as well as her brothers Patricio and Galo, and her beloved cat, Meenu. She was preceded in death by her parents, Galo and Amelia, and her younger brother Andres.
