Pauline (McBrine) Barkalow passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 15th, 2025, with her cherished husband Tom by her side. A long-time resident of Woburn, Pauline was eighty-eight years old.
One of two daughters of the late Edward and Madeline (Dallaire) McBrine, born in Cambridge, had moved to Watertown for high school, graduating from Rosary Academy. Pauline continued her education at Mass General School of Nursing where she received her R.N. certification.
Pauline began her nursing career at the Waltham Visiting Nurses. At the same time Pauline was working there, she was also in pursuit of her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing/Science, from Boston College, which she achieved. Travelling was an intricate part of Pauline's life. Around the world and back again! Pauline prior to her marriage to Tom in 1973 and continuing on, left no country unseen!
After her marriage to Tom, they moved to Woburn, where they brought into the world their son, Daniel. When Daniel arrived, Pauline retired from nursing, and was a "stay at home Mom," devoting herself to the family every day
Not one to be idle, and after Daniel began school, she became involved, at English at Large, in teaching English as a second language, to immigrants becoming citizens. This was a volunteer position, and Pauline was totally involved with each student, with not just their language, but as friends. Her abilities and kindnesses went above and beyond with absolutely everything and everyone Pauline was involved with. Pauline also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and as a Eucharistic Minister.
From quilting wall hangings to crafting comforters, knitting sweaters, hats, and mittens, as well as chanting in the mornings with friends, Pauline cherished every moment. She also enjoyed being involved with and volunteering for the SYDA Foundation.
For over fifty two years, Pauline was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend to oh so many! Her kind, thoughtful, and most gentle ways, were wonderful attributes that Pauline will long be remembered for. Paulines legacy of compassion and generosity touched countless lives along with Pauline's warmth and spirit were a guiding light, always ready to lend a hand or offer a heartfelt smile. Family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her laughter, her unwavering support, and her profound ability to make everyone feel special and loved; this legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those she touched through her remarkable journey.
Devoted mother of Daniel J. Barkalow, and his wife Vicka Corey of Ireland. Dear sister of the late Joan Talalas and sister-in-law of Elizabeth McGaffey, and her late husband David C. of CA. Cherished aunt of several nieces and nephews.
