Obituary published on Legacy.com by Somerset Undertaking Co. and Crematory - Somerset on Oct. 1, 2025.
Pauline Iva Ryman Decker, age 100 years and 8 months, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 30, 2025, in
Somerset, Kentucky. She was born on November 30, 1924, in Palacios, Texas, to the late Katie and Benjamin Ryman.
Pauline met her future husband during World War II, when he was stationed in Texas for boot camp. Their love endured the uncertainties of war and blossomed into a marriage that spanned over seven decades. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and mutual support.
A dedicated Christian, Mrs. Decker maintained a nightly tradition of reading a chapter of the Bible before bed until her eyesight no longer allowed. Even as her physical abilities declined, she continued to nurture her mind and spirit by practicing penmanship, completing word search puzzles and enjoying the simple joy of coloring.
A woman of unwavering strength, deep faith and lifelong devotion to her family, Mrs. Decker was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of nearly 72 years, Osburn Ellis Decker; eight siblings; one grandson, Troy Gadberry; and two great-grandsons, Anthony Lambert and Treavor Denney.
She is survived by her three daughters, who were her pride and joy: Verna (Wendall) Gadberry and Kay (Arnold) Denney, both of Jabez, Kentucky, and Kim (Marty) Parsons of Jacksonville, Florida. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren-Victor Denney, Tony Gadberry, Justin Denney, Laura (Tim) Denney-Lawson, Libbi Denney, Amanda Rosengrant, and Alyssa (Jade) Johnson--eight great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her love and guidance.
In celebration of her 100th birthday, Pauline received congratulatory letters from President Joe Biden, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman. She was honored with two birthday celebrations-one with close family and friends, and another with the family, staff, and residents of Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation-both of which brought her immense joy. Her milestone was also recognized with a front-page feature in The Commonwealth Journal.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation and to Hospice of Lake Cumberland for their dedicated care and support.
Pauline's life was a testament to resilience, love, and grace. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company on Monday, August 4. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 PM, also in the Chapel with Bro. Ronnie Decker officiating. Interment will be at Morrows Chapel Cemetery in Jabez, Kentucky.
