Pauline grew up on a farm in Pickford and following graduation from Pickford High School in 1944 she attended Lansing Business University. Following her graduation from LBU she received a scholarship to attend an 8-week short course in Home Economics at Michigan State College (now MSU). After graduating from short course, she worked as a secretary at the short course office and helped put together new programs for the agriculture department. She and Richard met on campus where he was also attending short courses at MSC. Richard and Pauline were married in Pickford on Oct. 19, 1946, and they moved to the Chesaning area. After their move back to Chesaning Pauline worked as a secretary at the Farmer's Elevator in town. When Richard became the Surge Dealer for Saginaw County, Pauline became the bookkeeper and managed the small store for their business. In the late 1960's she started working as a secretary for Aunt Jane's Pickles in New Lothrop.
Pauline was very active in her church and served as the treasurer for Trinity UMC for many years. She was active in her community as well as the school PTA and served as a Girl Scout Leader for the Mitten Bay Girl Scout Council. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She could always put a delicious meal on the table for family and friends. She was known for her homemade bread, lemon meringue pie, chocolate brownie cake and her famous breakfast casserole. Richard and Pauline enjoyed many trips during their years working for the Surge Company. They traveled to the Bahamas, Mexico, Spain, Greece, Brazil and Hawaii. They enjoyed traveling with family and friends and traveled to all of the 50 states except Alaska. In 1979 they became Florida snowbirds and wintered in Lake Wales, FL for 40 years.
Pauline's family extends a special thank you to the staff at Union Court in Chesaning and St. Charles for their loving care, the Advisa Care Hospice and all of her friends at Trinity UMC.
Visitation and a funeral service will be held Friday, November 7, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Janine Plum officiating. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Chesaning.
