Livingston, California - Pawitter Singh Samra passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home in Livingston, CA on Sunday March 3rd, 2024 at the age of 82.
Pawitter was the third son born to Sardar Javend Singh Samra and Kartar Kaur Samra on Tuesday September 13, 1941 in Samrai, Punjab, India. In 1965 he married his wife, Jasbir Kaur Shergill, and together they had two children, a daughter and a son. His marriage to Jasbir was arranged by his oldest brother Sardar Pargan Singh Samra. In 1977 he immigrated to the USA and settled in the small town of Livingston where his older brother and nephews resided. Few months later his wife and children immigrated and joined him. He started working at Foster Farms in 1977 and retired after working 37 years in 2014. His love for his extended family and hard work were unmatched. He had remarkable computer-like memory, as he could recall people's names and things that happened over seventy-years ago.
Pawitter's augmentative yet loving and caring personality touched everyone he met. Everyone younger than him called him "chacha" (uncle). He was a member of Sikh Temple Livingston. Some of his hobbies were listening to Punjabi news, gardening and going to the park in evenings to join his two older brothers and numerous close friends.
Pawitter is survived by his wife Jasbir of Livingston, CA, daughter Kulwant Kaur Grewal (Deepinder) of Fresno, CA, Kulwinder Singh Samra (Jasmine) of Livingston, CA. Pawitter leaves behind three grandsons, two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
Pawitter leaves behind grandchildren Amardeep "Shaan" Grewal, Rose Samra, Karyn Samra, Alexdeep "Alex" Grewal and Ivan Samra.
Pawitter was preceded in death by his mother Kartar Kaur Samra, father Sardar Javend Singh Samra, and two older brothers Sarwan Singh Samra and Sardar Pargan Singh Samra.
Traditional Sikh Funeral will be held on Sunday March 10, 2024 from 12:00 to 2:00pm at Allen Mortuary in Turlock, CA. Followed by Sikh prayer at Sikh Temple Livingston on Peach Avenue.
