Coach P. B. Walker, 83, of Madison, passed away on January 18, 2026, at his home in Madison, MS.

P.B. was born on May 23, 1942, to Ethel and Ida Dear Walker in Mendenhall, MS. He earned a football scholarship and attended Co-Lin Junior College, where he is in the Hall of Fame, Southeastern Louisiana University and Mississippi College (class of 1966) after being sought out by Coach Bernard Blackwell. P.B. married Phyllis Diane Henderson in 1967, and he coached at Madison-Ridgeland High School from 1966-1985. There, he maintained the football field and renovated the old agriculture shop into the field house. He owned Coaches Catering but could also be found peeling potatoes for his former football player, Bob, at Mama Hamil's in the early morning hours.

He mentored many students through teaching, coaching, FCA, and Jump Rope For Heart Fundraising benefiting the American Heart Association.

P.B. is survived by loving spouse Diane, sons, Scott Walker and Craig Walker (Kelli); grandchildren, Barrett Walker, Rivers Walker and Luke Walker; and brothers, James Earl Walker (Patti) and Ken Walker; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Walker, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ethel Eugene Walker, mother, Ida Mae Dear Walker, sisters, Doris Walker and Sherley Herron, and brothers, Alfred Walker, Jack Walker and Billy Charles Walker.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2026, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS and again Thursday morning from 10:00am until 11:00am at Old Town Wesley Church (former FUMC) in Ridgeland with the funeral service to follow at 11:00am. To Mrs Diane Walker & Family,

I am extending sincere condolences from me and all of my siblings. Everyone of us attended MRHS while Coach Walker served as coach, teacher, and unofficial role model.

A few days ago, while on our siblings' text group (after being informed of Coach Walker's passing), practically every one of us shared the positive impact that Coach Walker had on our lives.

I am sending thanks from all of us to you, Mrs Walker, as well as to Coach Walker for the consistently positive influence you all had on our lives during a significant and formative period of our lives.

*We are truly grateful.

May the Lord God continue to keep you and your family safe and secure in His Power, Love, Joy, and Peace.

Sincerely,

Robbie Lewis-Blackwell Class of '81.

Madison-Ridgeland High School will forever be one of my happy places. It was full of laughter, learning, and some of the most special people in the world! Last names like Henderson, Lewis, Foster, and Walker made me want to become a teacher. What wonderful role models they were.
Miss Diane, Scott, and Craig, my thoughts and prayers and with you. Coach P.B. will be missed.

Diane, from Steve Butler and our entire family, our heartfelt love to your family. Coach Walker was a big part of my happy childhood in Madison, and it warmed my heart to see him over the years when I visited back home. Mama Hamil's is, indeed, our Class of '82 "headquarters." As you well know, your husband was a wonderful man and much loved and respected by all -- not just the athletes he coached but the rest of us, too. May God bless you. Steve

As a coach, teacher, and mentor, Coach Walker was one of the most influential people to me growing up. That relationship extended to the whole family with P.B. and Diane becoming long-term friends with Mom and Dad until they passed. I will cherish your friendship and everything I learned from you the rest of my life. Rest in peace.

P. B. and Diane have been a huge part of our lives since 1965, especially´65-`83. Jerry and P. B. were almost always together whether eating, fishing, guarding the bus yard on Halloween, working on renovating the old field house with James Hodges, alternating bus drivers, coaching or just hanging out. Our children literally grew up together. The memories would fill a book. P. B. will be sorely missed by so many. He is now with his savior.
He and Jerry have a lot of catching up to do too. I pray peace and comfort to his family and loved ones. We love you. Cricket, LeighEllen, Clint and Shannon Henderson.

Coach was one of a kind. A coach, teacher, mentor, husband, father and a great friend. I had the opportunity to grow up watching him coach my brother in football and then I was able to play football while he was still coaching. He is the reason I got into track and I came in third in the district in high jump. I had him as my coach, my PE teacher and my Civics teacher before he had to leave due to health reasons. He was awesome and he touched a lot of lives. He definitely will be missed. Mrs Diane, Scott and Craig I am grateful for having him and your family in my life. R.I.P. Coach we got this from here.

Coach Walker was one of a kind. I was born after his coaching days had ended, but to all - he was still Coach. I grew up at FUMC and OTWC, and Coach made the best food on Sundays. I always found time to talk to coach about whatever game, or games, that had happened since I saw him last. He could talk ball with one of the best of them. My grandfather Harvey and dad Robby loved Coach, along with cousins, uncles, aunts, etc. Prayers to Mrs. Diane and the family. Coach will be truly missed!
