PD Terry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Service - Fountain Inn on Jan. 6, 2026.
Rodger "PD" Glenn Terry, 75, husband of Nancy Louise Hughes Terry for 47 years, passed away on January 5, 2026. Rodger was born in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, on February 21, 1950 to the late Lewis "Luke" C. Terry Sr and Yonnie Rodgers Terry.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his sons William Joshua "Josh" Terry (Katie) and Thomas Tyler Terry, his granddaughter Mary Campbell Louise Terry (Josh & Katie), his brothers Joe Terry (Elizabeth) and Edwin Terry (Pam), his brother-in-law Ronnie (Brenda), sister-in-law Jennie (Joe) and his many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews & grand-nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents, his step mother Mary Rodgers Terry, his brother Lewis C. Terry Jr., and his nephew Greg Terry.

He was a graduate of Hillcrest High School and served as the Fountain Inn Recreation Director from 1977 until 2008. During his more than three decades in the recreation department he built programs, facilities, and traditions that brought families together and fostered a lifelong love of teamwork and community pride. Under his leadership, countless children played their first games, families gathered for community events, and friendships were formed on ballfields and courts across the city. Because of his commitment, consistency and care for others the town's City Park was named in his honor. A firm believer in the positive power of youth athletics, he dedicated his life to encouraging children, leading by example, and using words only if he had to. He stepped in when help was needed, stood firm when it mattered most, and did it all without seeking recognition only wanting to see young people succeed.

He was a passionate follower of Jesus Christ, and following in the footsteps of the six generations before him was a lifelong member of Pisgah United Methodist Church where he acted as the Superintendent of Sunday School. His investment in the community was reflected by his membership in the Rotary Club of Fountain Inn, The Gideons International, Upper Carolina Sportsman Club and the Hillcrest High School football chain crew. He also served as an umpire and referee for Fountain Inn Recreation and Simpsonville Recreation and cherished every opportunity he had to be a regular guest reader to the kindergarteners at Fountain Inn Elementary. Above all, he was an unbelievably loyal, adoring and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

The family will receive friends at Fountain Inn Activities Center, 610 Fairview Street, Fountain Inn, SC 29644 on Thursday January 8, 2026 from 4:30 PM - 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Friday, January 9, 2026 at First Baptist Simpsonville, 3 Hedge Street, Simpsonville, SC 29681 followed by burial at Pisgah United Methodist Church, 1719 McKelvey Road, Fountain Inn, SC 29644.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to either Simpsonville First Baptist, referencing Backpack Blessings, 3 Hedge Street, Simpsonville, SC 29681 or Fountain Inn Elementary, 608 Fairview Street, Fountain Inn, SC 29644 where contributions will be used in his honor to buy books on sports, kindness and friendship for the children of Fountain Inn Elementary to continue his love of reading to them.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of such a remarkable man. From the very first time I met him through my husband so many years ago, he had a way of making me feel like family. Every greeting, every hug, every conversation carried his warmth and kindness. He had a gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and valued.
I saw him often at the park, and he refereed my daughters in ball countless times. His presence-steady, joyful, and full of integrity-was something I always admired. He inspired me, just as he inspired so many others whose lives he touched simply by being who he was.
It is hard to say goodbye to someone of such high character. He will be missed deeply by me and by countless others for years to come. May we all carry forward the love, generosity, and genuine spirit he showed us.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and all who loved him.

Beginning in the early 80´s I grew up playing ball on those fields PD managed. I can´t recall a time being there that I didn´t see PD busy doing something. I am so very thankful for his dedication. I know it made a difference in my life. Rest easy PD and I´ll see you soon.
