Pearl Virginia Johnson Mason was born June 30, 1924; the only child of Elvira and
Kelly Johnson, in Dunbar, West Virginia. Pearl stepped into Gloryland on Friday,
May 16, 2025.
Pearl was educated in the public school system in Dunbar until moving to Pittsburgh.
Pearl was employed at the Baptist Home in Mt. Lebanon and she later worked in
housekeeping at the Hyatt House until she retired.
In 1947, she met and married Clarence Mason and to that five children were born. The
strict yet loving disciplinarian never told her children "wait till your father gets
home."
Pearl accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and united with the Macedonia Baptist
Church of Pittsburgh. Pearl was a faithful, giving and devoted member.
Pearl was also a student of the Word of God. At Macedonia she was a member of the
gospel chorus, the Dorcas Missionary and Prayer Band. Pearl was recently recognized
as the oldest living member at Macedonia.
Mt Carmel also bore witness of her zeal of The Lord. With Christ in her heart and the
word of God in her mouth. Pearl was a Godly woman who did not play. You were given
the truth from her whether you liked it or not. Her special yet spiritual "Pearlisms"
were to the point and you got the message.
Pearls grandchildren called her "Grandbo Warrior" and we called her "The Judge" A
a woman given to hospitality, she opened her home to those who needed a place of ref-
uge. Following the rules of the house was all that was necessary. Pearl hosted a bible
study in her home for several years.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Mason, daughter Barabara Ma-
son, grandson Darryl Mason and son in law Reverend Matthew Reeves Jr.
Celebrating Pearl's life; her five surviving children all of Pittsburgh Kenneth Johnson,
Elvira Beverly Reeves, Melvin Mason (Tonya), Erenest Mason (Denise), Pamela Saun-
ders (Tony); eight surviving grandchildren Kimberely Agnew (Ted) of Maryland, Ken-
neth Johnson Jr (KK), Leonard Johnson, Mechelle Mason, Sean Mason (Lashonda) of
Florida, Shanekka Mason, Erenest Mason Jr., Christopher Troy Mason; 17 great-
grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren and the legacy of faith, hope and love.
