Peggie Sue Hartsell, 93, of Oakboro, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Atrium Health Stanly Hospital in Albemarle.
Mrs. Hartsell was born July 27, 1931, in High Point, NC to the late Claude Franklin Hartsell and Dollie Robbins Hartsell. She was also preceded in death by husband, Marshall Hartsell in 2008; brother, James Edward Hartsell.
She and Marshall were married for 58 years. The Lord blessed them with three children and six grandchildren. Lora was married to Maurice Huneycutt. He passed away in 2016. Lora and Maurice had two children, Shonda and Maurie Huneycutt. Marsha was married to Glenn Goldsmith. He passed away in 2011. Marsha and Glenn had three children, Autumn and Cory Goldsmith and Lisa McLean. Mark and his wife Lisa have one daughter, Lauren Hartsell Crump.
Survivors include daughter, Lora Elizabeth Huneycutt of Oakboro, NC, daughter, Marsha Sue Goldsmith of Locust, NC; son, Mark Franklin Hartsell of Stanfield, NC. Peggie is also survived by grandchildren; Autumn, Cory, Lisa (Todd), Lauren (Justin), Shonda (Wade) and Maurie (Sherrie). Step-grandchildren; Kyle (Emerald) and Alexis (Nathan). Great-grandson; Wade Lee Blalock and great-great-grandson; Granger Lee Huneycutt.
She worked from home for Penn-Carol Hosiery as a seamstress when her children were small so she could watch them. As the children got older she then worked in the mill working for Blaine Hosiery and B&C Sewing. She was a lifelong member of Big Lick Baptist Church teaching Sunday School for over 60 years. She also served as WMU Director, G.A. Leader, Choir Director and various other positions over the years. She loved to bake, especially birthday and wedding cakes. She made the communion bread for her church for over 20 years.
The family will receive friends September 28, 2024, from 2:30 pm -3:45 pm at Big Lick Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 4pm, officiated by Pastor Jeff Springer. Burial will follow at Big Lick Baptist Church Cemetery, 626 Big Lick Road, Oakboro.
