Peggy Bailey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service - Rich Square Chapel on Mar. 30, 2026.
NASHVILLE, NC - Peggy Joyce Ayscue Bailey, age 83, formerly of Ahoskie, passed peacefully from this life on March 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in her home. Born on November 27, 1942, in Bertie County, North Carolina, Peggy lived a life full of love, dedication, and warmth.

Peggy was the cherished daughter of the late Richard Ayscue and Evelyn Mizelle Ayscue. Over the years, she exhibited her nurturing spirit as the cafeteria manager at West Bertie Elementary School before retiring to spend more time with her family.

A devoted homemaker, Peggy found great joy in cooking and was famously known for her delectable chocolate pies. She cherished spending time outdoors camping at Green Acres and found peace in fishing's quietude. After relocating to Nashville following the passing of her beloved husband, George Edward Bailey, Sr., Peggy became an active member of her community through the Senior Center, where she forged dear friendships, particularly with Patsy Jones. Her days were filled with laughter on trips with friends and playing bingo.

In her youth, Peggy was enthralled by the music of Elvis Presley and cherished dancing weekends away at televised events in Washington. A natural athlete, she also played basketball in high school, demonstrating her energetic spirit and team camaraderie.

Above all, Peggy was a faithful and devoted member of Kelford Baptist Church, where she sang beautifully in the choir and offered her heart and hands to serve whenever needed. A passionate Duke Blue Devils fan, she cheered them on with unwavering loyalty and enthusiasm. Peggy will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved her. May her soul rest in everlasting peace.

Besides her parents, she was preceded by her husband of 52 years, George Edward Bailey; her only son, George Edward Bailey, Jr. and her brother, Richard L. Ayscue, Jr., "Boy".

Peggy leaves behind her daughter, Annette Baugham, and husband Herbert of Nashville, NC; her grandsons, Shawn Ivey and wife Laura of Orlando, FL, Samuel Ivey and wife BJ of Ahoskie, NC; her granddaughter, Krystal Schnier and husband Chris of Ayden, NC; her great-grandchildren, Caleb Ivey of Emporia, VA, Parker Ivey of Orlando, FL, Austin Hathaway and fiance' Haley of Ahoskie, NC, and Tyler Hathaway of Ahoskie, NC; sister, Jeanette Tinkham and husband Eddie of Aulander, NC; brother, William Ayscue and wife Sue of Woodland, NC; and sisters, Lillie Hall and Bonnie Robtoy and husband Randy, both of Kelford, NC; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.

A celebration of Peggy's life will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Kelford Baptist Church in Kelford, NC, where Pastor Doug Spivey will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service, at 1:00 pm. A private family burial will follow.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the registered nurse, nursing aide, and the social worker at Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care, sensitivity, and the comfort they brought to both my mother and our family.
