Peggy Elder Butler, age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 30, 2023.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at First Baptist Church Gadsden with Pastor Mat Alexander and Rev. Larry Fuhrman officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of service.
Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt L. Butler, Jr.; parents, D.H. and Flora Elder; sister, Katherine Elder; son-in-law, Tommy Brazeal; and her precious son, Billy Thompson.
She is survived by her daughters, Becky Brazeal and Laure Butler; son, Trey Butler (Connie); grandson, Cley Butler; granddaughters, Cheney Hickey (Steve) and Pary Payne (Daniel); great granddaughters, Reagan Hickey and Reese Hickey; great grandson, Mason Payne; sister, Sherry Swigert; brother, David Elder (Omayra); and her beloved cats, Jack and Tipper.
Peggy was a lifelong resident of Gadsden. She attended Emma Samson High School and represented her city as Miss Alabama in 1947. She celebrated her 75th Anniversary as Miss Alabama in July of 2022. The city of Gadsden honored her by proclaiming August 9, 2022 as Peggy Elder Butler Day.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mrs. Butler's memory to First Baptist Church Gadsden, 235 South Fifth Street, Gadsden. Alabama 35901.
