Peggy Gordon, 71, passed away on December 11, 2023, at the Effingham County Extended Care surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 11, 1952, in Bulloch County, Peggy lived a rich and fulfilling life marked by her dedication to her career, her love for her family, and her unwavering kindness towards others.
Peggy pursued a career in journalism, where she worked for 15 years as a dedicated journalist for the Effingham Herald. In addition to her work as a journalist, Peggy served as the Assistant Clerk for the City of Guyton for an impressive 30 years. Her commitment to public service was exemplary, and her meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic made her an invaluable asset to the community.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Peggy cherished every moment spent with her loving family. She adored spending quality time with them and was especially fond of moments shared with her loving grandchildren. Her family will forever remember Peggy's delicious cheese grits and the smell of her White Diamond perfume.
One of Peggy's proudest accomplishments was serving as a volunteer firefighter and first responder for many years. Educated at Lifesprings School of Ministry, Peggy earned a Bachelor's degree. She cherished her education and used her knowledge to positively impact those around her.
Peggy was a faithful member of Marantha Family Church and was known for her loving nature, kindness, and willingness to help anyone in need, Peggy left a lasting mark on the hearts of all who knew her. Her genuine care for others shone through in every interaction she had.
She is preceded in death by her loving sister and best friend, Nancy Simmons.
Peggy will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 50 years, George Gordon; her children, William Gordon (Aubri) of Clyo and Jessica Tant ( Michael) of Springfield; parents Nathaniel and Dorothy Scott of Rincon; brother, Steve Scott (Sharon) of Springfield; sister, Sandy Strunk (Charles) of Rincon. Peggy's memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren Addison, Chloe, Brody, Claudia, Greyson, and many extended family members and friends.
To honor Peggy's life, a visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home with burial to follow at Green Hill Baptist Church.
