A Reflection on a Life Well Lived
It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we pause to honor the life of a beloved individual, whose presence left a lasting impact on all who were fortunate to know her. While words may only scratch the surface of a life so rich in meaning, we gather here in spirit and memory, joined by the threads of shared moments, laughter, kindness, and love.
Peggy was born in Alamance County on November 19, 1935, to Joe Richmond and Main Bratcher LeGrand. She was blessed beyond measure to be reared by Joe and Bertha Sue Richmond. Her Legacy of Love bloomed on July 21, 2025, as her Lord and Savior called her from labor to reward.
She ministered for many years as a certified nursing assistant working with Hospice patients and their families. Peggy loved to travel an explore all that the world had to offer. She lived not only in North Carolina, but spent many years in Baltimore, Maryland and California. Enjoyable moments were spent with her family, traveling, shopping, decorating and gardening her flower beds and it goes without saying, "dressing" in which she was always stunning. Peggy was a lifelong member of Sweet Gum Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Mother of the Church, a role she embraced with humility and honor.
Her legacy will continue in the lives of her two sons, Thomas Vanhook, and Ricky Purcell Alexander (Debra), a host of grandchildren; two sisters, Nannie Hilda Bratcher Yarbor and Rachel Randolph along with nieces, nephews and a host of other family and dear friends.
A reunion of love has begun as she now joins her parents, spouses; Thomas Vanhook and Joseph Lee Johnson, and her sons; Ronnie James Vanhook and Tony Ray Vanhook.
