Peggy Pinkard Mann
(Affectionately known as Tillie)
Peggy Pinkard Mann was born to the late Douglas Pinkard and Maud Pinkard on October 15, 1935, in Warrenton, Virginia. She was the oldest of seven children.
Peggy attended Fauquier County Public Schools and was a 1954 class graduate of W. C. Taylor High School in Warrenton, Virginia. While attending Taylor, she was an active participant in many school related activities: President of New Homemakers of America and the Library Club; Assistant Secretary of Mixed Chorus; Captain of School Patrol and Basketball Team; Membership in Cheering Squad and Junior League. Peggy's ambition was to become a lawyer.
Peggy met the love of her life, Ernest Lee Mann, Jr. through some acquaintances who were seeing her sisters. Peggy and Ernest dated for three years during the time he had proposed several times and she turned him down. Finally the Christmas of 1955, she accepted his proposal to marry him. On January 14, 1956, Peggy and Ernest became husband and wife with the mothers of Peggy and Ernest as witnesses. To this union was born two children: Debra Marie and Darryl Irvin.
Peggy did domestic housework for many years; substituted for the staff at the former Antioch McCrae and Gainesville Elementary Schools in Prince William County Schools; and later was hired full time by Prince William County Schools to be Parent Community Liaison for schools with the Chapter 1 program (which later became Title I) and for Head Start. She retired from Prince William County Schools in 1997.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Maud Pinkard; one brother, Douglas Pinkard; and one sister, Betty Pinkard Kenny.
Cherishing her memory is: her husband of sixty-nine years Ernest Lee Mann, Jr.; two children and their spouses: Debra Ames (Malcolm) and Darryl Mann (Gloria); five grandchildren and their spouses: Malcolm Ames, Daniel Ames (Crystal), Ayana Ames, Hayley Mann, Heather Baumstark (Michael); and five great-grandchildren: Joshua and Cameron Ames, Laura, Jessica, and Cameron Richardson. Also cherishing her memory are four sisters: Marian Yates, Rosa Robinson, Mildred Jones, Patsy Corbin; three sisters-in-love: Doris Pinkard, Marjorie Stewart, and Valerie Dyer; four brothers-in-love: Thad Jones, Alfred Corbin, William Mann, and Bernard Dyer; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
