Peggy Cox Matthews, 76, of Reidsville, was greeted by Angels on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Gibson House in Reidsville.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church in Reidsville with Rev. Travis McGuirt, Rev. Clay Warf, and Rev. Ron Boswell officiating. Due to the holiday, the graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 10:00AM. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, from 6:00-8:00PM, at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Peggy was born January 22, 1948, to the late Robert Taylor Cox and Dora Wilma Ware Cox. She was a lifelong resident of Rockingham County, and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 65 years. Peggy was very involved in the church and directed the nursery for many years. She was on the Kitchen Committee, acted as the church custodian, and attended many mission trips. Peggy was a great seamstress and cook, who loved her flowers, trips to the beach, and mountains and especially loved dancing to Rock n’ Roll music. She was a selfless person who always was willing to help anyone in need. She was also a homemaker who raised four devoted children and loved spending time with her 8 grandchildren. In her last days she was comforted by visits from her sister, Betty O’Bryant, and sister-in-law, Sarah Matthews and ladies of the church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert “Bobby” Taylor Cox, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Calvin Matthews; sons, Kevin Clay Matthews and wife Shelby, Eric Taylor Matthews and wife Crystal; daughter, Michelle Matthews Turner and husband Clark, Sandee Matthews Key and husband John; grandchildren, Caroline Turner James and husband Jordan; Hannah Turner; Carson Key Taylor and husband Gavin; Taylor Key; Liza Key, Celia Braud Matthews; Caleb Matthews and Sadie Matthews. Brother, Richard Earl Cox and wife Linda; sister, Betty Cox O’Bryant and husband John; best friends, Sarah Matthews and Rachel Scott; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Ancora Compassionate Care at PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC, 27375.
